<br></div>
<div>
As I got into each celebration, I started thinking about how much my kids have grown. Naturally. But this year, I also thought about how much I have changed, grown, altered my perception. </div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
I feel like so many of us stumble through the years of raising toddlers, it whizzing by, kind of losing ourselves because it goes by so fast to really think about what may be happening within you and outside of you. You are just trying to do you, but also trying to get little humans alive and happy, while doing your absolute best to not freak out or panic on all the things you are not getting done.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
At least that is how I feel.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
I feel like at some point, I did lose a bit of myself. Not in a negative way, but I just forgot to check in on how I was doing...what I needed. Truthfully, I just told myself I didn't have time and put "me" on the backburner because I was either too tired, or...well, yeah, I was just too tired.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
As women, we often feel the need to either portray that we have all our shit together, and it can be difficult on us, unless we really talk about it.</div>
<div>
<br></div>
<div>
To everyone that knows me and says to me "I don't know how you do it" and may be thinking my snapchats and instagram is things coming easily or naturally...trust me, I don't always have my shit together...at all. At least I don't feel like I do. </div><div><br></div><div>To be honest, I think it was hard for me to admit how scattered and flighty I felt or how "I let myself go", because I am normally super organized and could never see myself being anything but. </div><div><br></div><div>Because I felt that, I thought I should say so on this platform. Why?</div><div>- Because I am likely not alone</div><div>- Because writing it is my way of accepting it and figuring out my balance</div><div>- Because I want us moms to feel it is safe and not fear judgement to admit whatever we are feeling and needing</div><div>- Because it is just a part of life and I am always learning amd rediscovering myself</div><div>- Because it is hard some days and it doesn't make me a bad mom to admit that.</div><div><br></div><div>So what am I going to do?</div><div><br></div><div>I am giving myself a break. </div><div><br></div><div>No. I'm not taking a break...I am going easy on myself. I am going to follow my passion and continue to work on that. I am going to live in the moment as much as possible.I am not going to always worry about what isn't right and focus on what is awesome. I am going to acknowledge what I need to feel like me and ask for help so that I can take care of me if that is what I need in that very moment. </div><div><br></div><div>I want my kids to see I am a trier. But also that I know who I am and happy.</div><div><br></div><div>So, I am here saying...</div><div><br></div><div>"I am a proud and happy momma. I love motherhood and its journey. I do not always have my crap together but that is ok. I have changed and am still changing. I'm not lost I am just ever evolving. I do not care if it's what expected of me because the only expectation I will follow is the one I set for myself to be happy."</div><div><br></div><div>So moms...give yourself a break. It is ok to change and it's ok to do whatever you feel and want and need. Just smile and know you will find your true self so long as you just give yourself a break...and just be. </div><div><br></div><div>Now take a nap...because if you read all this, you are a tired momma that totally relates ;)</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>

Soooooooo good.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div dir="ltr">
Ok, I must admit I didn't really get smoothie bowls. I really was wondering why people wanted to spoon their smoothies...I mean if you are blending away a smoothie, the purpose is to drink it right? Furthermore, wouldn't it just be a fancy yogurt topped with stuff kind of deal??</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
So I abolished that stereotyping off smoothie bowls in my mind.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I was in the kitchen, using my handy dandy Ninja, creating a smoothie recipe. I decided to use the remaining Kefir I had in the fridge vs yogurt or milk this day. It turned out a bit thicker than a usual smoothie, which is ok. I thought I will just add some milk... then I thought, hmmm I'm going to give this bowl a shot.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Glad I did...</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Rayna enjoyed it too. Caiden, well he drank it like a thick milkshake and didn't complain. But for us girls, we were being trendy.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
So anyways, here it is...my first smoothie bowl. Well, if you are not into bowls just x-nay the toppings and drink, it's a darn good smoothie too.</div>

When I first saw the announcement coming in about the Deighton Cup, happening at Hastings Race Tracks, on July 23rd, I thought, "this is such a fun unique event that I may want to check out this year."</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Naturally, my husband was beside me, and just told him to keep the day open because I am going to RSVP. Sounds good.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This seems like a great date. Get all dressed up, but more than normal dressup, go out wearing your best, fun & fancy hats, the works! Totally like "a day at the races" movie style!! <i>(I am refraining from making Pretty Woman references, but I know that is what we are all thinking.)</i></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
The Deighton Cup, though I don't normally go to the horse races, or gamble much for that matter, really is an event where it doesn't matter. It is a unique and prestigious and fun celebration, which is great to experience.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
So then I thought, why not actually share the event with one of my besties. Make a girly day of it, have a partner who wants to wear a big hat, drink a mimosa, and cheer at a sporting event...I immediately knew I wanted to do that with one special lady in particular. So I ditched the hubs and asked my homegirl to join me, and she was stoked!</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I can't wait!</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
So if you're interested in having a fun Saturday out with some friends, a girlfriend, or your spouse... And looking for a cool, unique event to try... perhaps you should check out the Deighton Cup as well.</div>

Caiden and Rayna are only 2 and 3, so it's hard to think of something outside of painted spiderman pictures, play-doh figurines and crayon-engraved cards.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgppIWTgOhgrfsNcogByLFqeMjGryZZNkjU1fnAVCvbTItnxgFjXm-zQO2VTtatXWqYyl1jD6kl5-vFDLCBAZA1uNAO4N1E8T66k4fdW7hlSA126AL3YFcjhttBJ5g7ZjxEiFLW8YJ0edd6/s1600/20150307_142137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgppIWTgOhgrfsNcogByLFqeMjGryZZNkjU1fnAVCvbTItnxgFjXm-zQO2VTtatXWqYyl1jD6kl5-vFDLCBAZA1uNAO4N1E8T66k4fdW7hlSA126AL3YFcjhttBJ5g7ZjxEiFLW8YJ0edd6/s320/20150307_142137.jpg" width="320"></a></div>
<br>
<h3>
The Love For Soccer</h3>
<br>
We love those, but now that Caiden has started playing soccer, for fun, and hubs is, well to really understate it, a soccer fanatic, I thought maybe we should tie something together to do with soccer.<br>
<br>
Those of you who know Vick, know his love for the game. How he played as a youth, excelled as one of the top players in BC at his time in his teenage years, but then went on to play at a professional level in Greece for most of his 20s. He has consistently been a part of the VMSL, through playing and assisting in coaching. Although he is retired, soccer is something that has shaped him, showed him the world, and even if our kids do not grow up to play it, it will be always be a something we want to share with them. Something we want them to learn about, be exposed to...the lesson of trying, the beauty and the discipline any passion takes, and the fun of a sport.<br>
<br>
<h3>
Father's Day Whitecaps Game</h3>
<br>
What better way to say Happy Father's Day than to take him to a soccer game here. Although the kids and us have gone to many games before, I learned that on June 17th, <a href="http://oss.ticketmaster.com/aps/whitecaps/EN/buy/details/17fdp" rel="nofollow">Whitecaps vs. Dallas FC</a>, there is a special Father's Day game. On this day, lucky fans can get a chance to get out on the field and actually take a picture on the field.<br>
<br>
As Caiden just started kicking the ball around and discovering how fun soccer can be, I think this is the perfect opportunity to have them go and enjoy, not only the game, but have a unique experience of standing in a field of a stadium together. Something that Caiden will hear about but hasn't seen with his dad yet.<br>
<br>
Cute huh? Nostalgic and precious...and will make a great gift for Father's Day.<br>

Meatballs can be a quick meal option. Other than them just being a cool kid food. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I make meatballs, because, frankly, I know my kids will eat them. It's easy enough, homemade so I am controlling what goes in, and...oh yeah that's right, tastes freaking awesome.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<h3>
Thanks Mom!</h3>
<div dir="ltr">
Before I give you my meatballs recipe, I have to admit...it's not really my own. I may have borrowed it from my mom. You see, my mom always has, and still does, makes the best turkey and/or chicken burgers. Hands down, the best...for real (moms are the best home cooks, so it's ok for me to say that). Soooo, who am I to play with perfection?</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Therefore, I simply took her recipe, remixed it just a tad, into meatball form, and stuffed it with cheese...oh yes. Meatballs with cheese, that tastes like moms burgers, and my kids eat! </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<h3>
Eat Sprout</h3>
<div dir="ltr">
Now, as you may have known by now, I recently started getting my meat products farm fresh from <a href="http://www.eatsprout.ca/?rfsn=581890.ab6d9">Sprout Farm Fresh</a>. The reason being:</div>
<div dir="ltr">
</div>
<ul>
<li>They have organic meat products available</li>
<li>The meat is butcher-quality and coming from the farm straight to your door - yes delivered!!</li>
<li>Fresh the day of delivery, so higher nutritional profile than those that have been in the freezer</li>
<li>Their selection and prices are awesome, and an easy to shop process</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div dir="ltr">
I really encourage you all to try this option. Shop or browse by clicking <a href="http://www.eatsprout.ca/?rfsn=581890.ab6d9">here</a>.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<h3>
Turkey for the Win!</h3>
<div dir="ltr">
Ok my meatballs...I chose to make them out of turkey. Turkey is a lean meat, meaning it has less fat than other meats, so generally better for you in that sense. </div>
<div dir="ltr">

Oh I should mention, when I got the meat, 2kg of it, it was delivered neatly packed into 0.5kg bags. Sealed and ready for storage, or the freezer if needed. Such nicely packed, portioned amounts is ideal for me! It's so easy to store, and defrost, and just saves me having to do it (which, if you have ever packed/portioned ground meat yourself, is far from enjoyable). </div>

<li>0.5 kg ground turkey meat</li>
<li>1 handful chopped cilantro</li>
<li>1 large egg</li>
<li>4 minced garlic gloves</li>
<li>1/2 finely chopped onion</li>
<li>2-3 tsp minced fresh ginger (or grated)</li>
<li>1 tbsp soy sauce</li>
<li>1 tsp lemon juice</li>
<li>2 tsp paprika</li>
<li>2-3 tsp garlic powder</li>
<li>a dash of oregano</li>
<li>salt and pepper as desired</li>
<li>3-4 oz. cubed cheddar cheese </li>
<li>breadcrumbs (optional)</li>
<li>olive oil, baking spray or parchment paper to line baking tray</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<h4>
What To Do</h4>
<div dir="ltr">
</div>
<ol>
<li>Preheat the oven at 325°</li>
<li>Combine all the ingredients, except for the cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs (it's best to just mix with your hands, I think). <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6lBo1tiIvZsX6q8OjfNArb2txeCXJ5DvqiZVOZlDy9c4zzI5aR0mXmlXrMpgMhHGoa9SsH3ZWWFFiQkx-eWvJebQSBJOSc7KeTjiiZt60tPOl66c51ikup8W_kj8N6AVtJj31T-BmtFpC/s1600/Picture_20170427_012135407.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Turning Mommy - Turkey Burger Meatballs" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6lBo1tiIvZsX6q8OjfNArb2txeCXJ5DvqiZVOZlDy9c4zzI5aR0mXmlXrMpgMhHGoa9SsH3ZWWFFiQkx-eWvJebQSBJOSc7KeTjiiZt60tPOl66c51ikup8W_kj8N6AVtJj31T-BmtFpC/s320/Picture_20170427_012135407.jpg" title="Turning Mommy - Turkey Burger Meatballs" width="220" /></a></div>
</li>
<li>Once all combined, test rolling out some in your hand, if you find that the meat is too sticky, add breadcrumbs. Add enough, slowly, to not be very visible, but making the mixture more workable. </li>
<li>Taking an amount no larger than 1 tablespoon, work into a half dome. </li>
<li>Add a piece of the cheddar cheese in the middle of the dome.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK8XgC1x2yCGQy8DvGSi1CWEybnyIsiMfiHbBN9144RaVRuua_t4zRZsKR_hZ-3iLhsZJG3pRqn6LRWl5EAr5UmfewWr8uIzDhxkVKVhAt_NTUbRAW8_C9acUj-prpleDZFoxmo246hc96/s1600/Picture_20170427_012028623.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Turning Mommy - Turkey Burger Meatballs" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK8XgC1x2yCGQy8DvGSi1CWEybnyIsiMfiHbBN9144RaVRuua_t4zRZsKR_hZ-3iLhsZJG3pRqn6LRWl5EAr5UmfewWr8uIzDhxkVKVhAt_NTUbRAW8_C9acUj-prpleDZFoxmo246hc96/s320/Picture_20170427_012028623.jpg" title="Turning Mommy - Turkey Burger Meatballs" width="180" /></a></div>
</li>
<li>Now roll into a ball, about 1/2 inch size small meatballs, and cover the cheese completely.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpdrqglSqIgJ5n5Cj0Unkxvj4D-0yffaAJSkiZvGFpCYgWPF-blFwWmWRqmk1zvv_e_P8yONNESVTb51Op4faNe9YsIpFWaY1TaFgbIW9K3htcSLVxLGOQOWxrLnGzBwHq22tIJMG_KBDz/s1600/P_20170419_170027_vHDR_Auto.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Turning Mommy - Turkey Burger Meatballs" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpdrqglSqIgJ5n5Cj0Unkxvj4D-0yffaAJSkiZvGFpCYgWPF-blFwWmWRqmk1zvv_e_P8yONNESVTb51Op4faNe9YsIpFWaY1TaFgbIW9K3htcSLVxLGOQOWxrLnGzBwHq22tIJMG_KBDz/s320/P_20170419_170027_vHDR_Auto.jpg" title="Turning Mommy - Turkey Burger Meatballs" width="205" /></a></div>
</li>
<li>Place on the baking sheet and back for about 20min. (You will need to check if meatballs are browning, as cooking time will vary depending on the size of the meatballs).</li>
<li>Let cool, serve with salad, pasta, in sauce, or have as a snack (I sometimes serve this simply with some greek style potatoes and veggies). </li>
</ol>

Rice. Simple in nature, popular internationally, completely understated rice. </div>
<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">
Rice is so amazing. It is a versatile grain that goes with any protein and vegetables to be made into a perfect meal. Although, I definitely do not, nor recommend to have it daily (I do believe in a versatile diet), I honestly could!</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
My kids love rice, I think most do. So, it is an easy go to for dinner once in a while. It allows me to mix in key nutrition while filling them up.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I personally opt for parboiled and brown rice. But to make it more interesting, I am always looking to make inventive rice dishes. Typically, being Fijian/Indian, we have rice plain but mixed with daal or curries or chutneys. Even still, I love one pot meals, and to kick it up a notch with rice. Given, I don't want to just always have it there as a compliment often.</div>

So...</div>

I took to my South Asian Blogger Network friends because they were sure to have some awesome ideas (no I'm not being stereotypical, it's knowing what library to look in), and, BAM!!! They did not disappoint, that's for sure.<br />

Not my relationships with others, not my career, not even my own self. The only thing that mattered was my connection with my child, my child's health (of course) and me being the best mom I could possibly be.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I would read about every recommendation and was on top of all the suggestions (both medical and familial). I was that new mom that rolled into each doctor's appointment with a note with a list of questions.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I was in charge of a rigurous schedule that worked well for my child (because I knew exactly how many hours of sleep they needed and when and why). I counted each hour, with each nap, each day, and if it fell below that minimum, I freaked. </p>
<p dir="ltr">I breastfed exclusively, and mastered every obstacle that came with that (because it was not easy at first for me). I watched the clock and timed every feed and every ounce I would have to leave behind, if I had to leave, and ensured I was back before that amount of ounce per hour saved was up. I took no chances. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Afterall, I was responsible for human life. Fricking HUGE responsibility right?</p>
<p dir="ltr">Yes...but what I failed to realize, what that you know what, I was a good mom regardless. I was a good mom for trying, but that didn't mean I had to be perfect. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Enter child #2. Wow. It's like she was my Ativan. She was the vapourizer, and my realization that I needed to breathe.</p>
<p dir="ltr">While, yes I still monitored her closely, she clusterfed. So, keeping track of how much was nearly impossible, and I didn't even bother to pump...I just took a wrap and her and out the door I went. I did mind her sleep, but I didnt agonize, because I knew she needed x amount and she was getting it, because I listened to her cues vs. A chart only. I didn't always have questions now, but that didn't mean I always had the answers either. </p>
<p dir="ltr">But that was alright.</p>
<p dir="ltr">When Rayna was born, I also had Caiden as  young dependent toddler. They were different in so many ways, that not one set of methods seemed to make sense anymore. I trusted myself, because I felt like a good mom. My babies loved me, and me asking for help, me taking breaks, and me sometimes going with the flow, didn't alter that. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Of course, I have my ways of parenting, and that works for me. But having two different personalities in my kids taught me that you have to do what works for you. </p>
<p dir="ltr">You can listen to a world of advice, but breathing and taking it in, and being true to yourself is key. </p>
<p dir="ltr">All new moms go through a learning curve and some paranoia. But it is perfectly ok. Once you got it...that's just it, you got it.</p>
<p dir="ltr">So breathe moms. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Because you are doing great, no matter how you are doing it. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Sigh. </p>
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13229494793034500536noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3671338290088281648.post-82155853392779753722017-04-03T21:10:00.001-07:002017-05-30T01:50:12.146-07:002 Toddlers, 2 To Watch Grow, 2 That I Cherish<p dir="ltr">This toddler phase is so amazing. It really truly is.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I mean, well...ok, it is tough. They are at an independence seeking stage, where they want to have their way, throw tantrums occasionally, always on the go, become selective eaters, make you late by not wanting to get dresses, and pretty much stop hearing you call their name or tuning you saying, "please stop that," repeatedly to the point you want to scream...and then you sometimes do. SIGH. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Yes toddlerism is all those things. No doubt. </p>
<p dir="ltr">I have 2 of them. Being 23 months apart, while they love and play with eachother, I do go through 2 sets of little people acting like big people, and wanting their way. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Sometimes I catch myself even pleading with them for 5 minutes of quiet time...and hand them crayons and paper, only to get them to be hush hush for a small fraction of time. Then of course, someone wants the blue crayon and only that one specific blue crayon that the other is using, while the other is trying to eat it. BIG SIGH.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Here is the irony. </p>
<p dir="ltr">As annoying and exhausting as it can be, at times, I catch myself being in total awe.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Yes, I mean that.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I am constantly trying to soak up all this goodness due to my anxiety of just how fast time is going. They won't be this age ever again...they won't always want to sing and dance in their pjs, and they won't always speak in these cute voices totally mispronouncing words like "delicious" or "ok" (which are currently "dishus" and "otay").</p>
<p dir="ltr">I am actually okay with the occasional tantrum or meltdown in the restaurant, or them not wanting to get dressed (notice I say occasional). This is because, frankly they are kids. They are kind of supposed to do all this and go through all this...and hopefully come out half decent. There is no need to stress about why they are being crazy, because they won't always be this little...and I fear I will long for those days again.</p>
<p dir="ltr">So grab your toddlers and go play hide and seek and colour with them, leave the chores once in a while, and just cherish moments when you can. </p>
<p dir="ltr">After all, these critters are not that bad...they are pretty darn fun and we could all use a little fun. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Thank you my babies for reminding me to just stop and "come play me momma."<br><br></p>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF4vNtoX1MDevADRk7vkBO3hhk1vZRGlJbzhfgV2v0x9ZvkHJXnYzQgvxKL5WMDhmsPdH4YEzcEPSI4hFDvODWYgCgrZLpwEBl1ApBTdcPO6cq0KJ3cDjqyc9-gfq7Jpsk8kw9e1Ho-Shr/s1600/P_20170312_134842_vHDR_On.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF4vNtoX1MDevADRk7vkBO3hhk1vZRGlJbzhfgV2v0x9ZvkHJXnYzQgvxKL5WMDhmsPdH4YEzcEPSI4hFDvODWYgCgrZLpwEBl1ApBTdcPO6cq0KJ3cDjqyc9-gfq7Jpsk8kw9e1Ho-Shr/s400/P_20170312_134842_vHDR_On.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
You know I am always making snacks, ones that are healthy and the kids would love.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
With any snack, fibre is a major goal.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Recently, Rayna was bouting some tummy issues. For me, this was super traumatizing watching her be uncomfortable, as well as the fact that I try so hard to give them healthful foods at least 80% of the time. It kind of concerned me that on the odd occasions she may eat something that would send her gut off on this painful course. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<i>Of course, I may be being a bit dramatic (but food and nutrition are kind of something that I feel I got a handle on, so for me, yeah it's a big deal). </i></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Anywho, it got me thinking that I want to have home-made snacks on hand for times we have to be on the go, or if I have a meeting to run to and must leave with a sitter, or whatever. Just something trustworthy and healthful yet filling. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Now, as a bonus, I wanted to create something I would love to eat too...given I'm kind of on the go most of the time. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I have been seeing the concept of these "energy balls" or "bites" being pretty popular. So, I set off to the kitchen to play with some ingredients I had on hand and test out a few recipes. This was was pretty "rock on" (sorry, Caiden has been saying that lately), and was so stoked I handed them out!</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Not only is is fricking jam-packed with goodness and nutrition, it is a fulfilling snack, and gives a little bit of needed energy if you are feeling sluggish.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
So give it a go...the kids ate them up, I did, and a few other adults. I think this will be in rotation at my place.<br />

Isn't it amazing how quickly kids pick up language, words, and even emotions?</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
It's dope.</div>

<div dir="ltr">
The process of learning how to talk is so fascinating to me, not to mention it is so beyond cute to hear baby-voiced words.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Rayna is such a talker these days. She has mastered the art of stringing together sentences and it is so adorable. The best is when I ask her to do something her reply is "otay momma." Or if she is looking for her dad or brother she says, "hey, where dadda tho" (tho is baby talk for go, FYI). And if she is in her diva, bossy, queen bee mode, we hear, "Caiden, come here right NOW," signaling her brother to come play with her.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Whatever she is saying, I honestly melt inside. Either it's cracking me up, or it is soooooooooo cute.</div>

Sometimes, I cannot believe I have two communicating toddlers. The beauty of it really is watching them interact and tell each other what they want to do...I have to step back and allow myself to fall deeper in love with every moment like these.</div>

The other day, Caiden said to me let's plag hide and seek. So we did. Rayna and I went to look for him and he hid in a small opening between his 2 wardrobes. When Rayna yelled, "I see you Caiden" his response was a cool, "no you cannot, I am camouflaged."</div>
<div dir="ltr">

<div dir="ltr">
What!! CAMOUFLAGED YOU SAID??? You are 3! Floored me. I think I was in elementary when I learned to talk like that. Never mind he tells me my food is delicious and that somethings are ridiculous...yes my 3-year old's vocab is killing me. </div>

<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
I love the versatility of chicken, I love the lean quality, I love that I can create lunch and dinner with it, and it goes with just about everything. The kids love chicken too. So needless to say, we ensure we always have lean chicken breast in our freezer.<br />

<h2>
Chicken As Nutritious as Possible and Farm Fresh</h2>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
Given that we are buying chicken all the time, I do want to ensure I am feeding my family quality foods which is as fresh as possible. So it was a blessing when I found out about <a href="http://www.eatsprout.ca/?rfsn=581890.ab6d9" rel="nofollow">Sprout Farm Fresh Meats.</a> </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
This is a meat delivery service that is farm-fresh, offering quality butcher-quality meats. <span style="font-size: 13.3333px;">Yes, you heard me, from farm to your home, and you don't have to leave the house. Serious win!</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
Basically, here is no inventory kept on hand, when you order the meats you want, it is only then that the <a href="http://www.eatsprout.ca/?rfsn=581890.ab6d9" rel="nofollow">Sprout Farm Fresh Meats</a> goes and gets it from their partner farms and then arrange to have it delivered directly to your home! What a great service.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
Now we can cut out the middle man, have meats that are just a few days young, and hence offering its highest nutritional profile. To learn more go to <a href="http://www.eatsprout.ca/?rfsn=581890.ab6d9" rel="nofollow">www.eatsprout.ca</a><br />

</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
I had to try it for myself, and what did I get...chicken breast! Beautifully cut, packaged, lean chicken breast, ready to use, came right to my door. I got notification of the date and time to expect my order, and it came without haste.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: 13.3333px;">I urge you to check it out for yourself. I found it, personally to be extremely convenient, healthier and fresher, and </span>surprisingly<span style="font-size: 13.3333px;">...absolutely affordable and well-priced. </span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
Now, normally I would freeze the meat I buy, but knowing it came from the farm that day, I was anxious to use it to cook dinner, right away.<br />

<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
So I took to creating two different stuffed chicken recipes (trust me, not as difficult as it sounds). One breaded, one coated in a homemade sauce. Both turned out, and I really want to share here with you!</div>

<h3>
Broccoli & Cheese Stuffed Breaded Chicken</h3>

<div>
This turned out beautiful, and because of the garlic, I found the need for seasoning to be so little. I suggest serving with brown rice and a salad or eating on its own (it is stuffed with goodness after all). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
<h4>
Ingredients</h4>
<h4>
<span style="font-weight: normal;">3 Skinless, boneless chicken breasts</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">5 cloves garlic, crushed</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">5-6 cherry tomatoes, halved</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">8 broccoli florets, finely chopped</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">1 tbsp margarine or butter</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">3 oz gouda, sliced</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">salt and pepper to taste</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">2 eggs</span><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">1 cup breadcrumbs</span><br />
<br />What To Do </h4>
</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">
Open up the chicken breasts, so it is in a heart shape (cut down the middle and open, do not split into 2 pieces). Cover with saran wrap and slightly flatten using a rolling pin or meat mortar (not too thin).<br />
<br />
In a dish, combine the garlic, cherry tomatoes, broccoli and margarine and mix well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkaChqZj2fwlBm-vZjqroFkZCoJOhqXTgF0lQhF9zav50km1ig9TRXOaY8bsKgBMWnuJE-1Aah5bHrjC3BKOm9w7LLdj6b-pF4YdTSOJ_hli8_oKKHSXrr0khNg8M5he4qNnP0BzZuTyJ4/s1600/P_20170218_184745.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Turning Mommy Broccoli cheese Stuffed Chicken" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkaChqZj2fwlBm-vZjqroFkZCoJOhqXTgF0lQhF9zav50km1ig9TRXOaY8bsKgBMWnuJE-1Aah5bHrjC3BKOm9w7LLdj6b-pF4YdTSOJ_hli8_oKKHSXrr0khNg8M5he4qNnP0BzZuTyJ4/s320/P_20170218_184745.jpg" title="Turning Mommy Broccoli cheese Stuffed Chicken" width="217" /></a></div>
<br />
Place the mixture evenly on the inside of the chicken (just on one side).<br />
<br />
Place a piece of gouda on the top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm8sdzn5ttYWS9_yL_mga2Q4wgdhcv3Zl6HEJ-1Ea3m4bJa4ZDPWnjtiOU9IhPMoKiywMWejh02S4tLYFs2JOufgtgxsQJnRR00P6YyfYtsD652TU06Rb1mePlrO588ZuDHhsCXj-Oeb7p/s1600/P_20170218_184832.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Turning Mommy Broccoli cheese Stuffed Chicken" border="0" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm8sdzn5ttYWS9_yL_mga2Q4wgdhcv3Zl6HEJ-1Ea3m4bJa4ZDPWnjtiOU9IhPMoKiywMWejh02S4tLYFs2JOufgtgxsQJnRR00P6YyfYtsD652TU06Rb1mePlrO588ZuDHhsCXj-Oeb7p/s320/P_20170218_184832.jpg" title="Turning Mommy Broccoli cheese Stuffed Chicken" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Fold the chicken over to cover completely.<br />
<br />
In a plate, pour your breadcrumbs and season with salt and pepper (and any other spices you wish to add). Beat the eggs in a separate dish.<br />
<br />
Take each chicken and dip into the egg, and then place into the breadcrumb plate. Ensure it is fully coated and covered.<br />

Place on a baking try (slightly greased) and bake at 325 for about 30-35min (check to see if browned on top to a crisp).<br />

<div>
This is a quick and easy stuffed chicken recipe, with the sauce you do not need to season the actual chicken and ingredients. It's a great recipe to serve with a side of green beans or chickpeas, or on top of some light pasta. </div>

I'm not the perfect parent. But at the end of the day, I feel like an amazing mom.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
My kids make me proud, and I know they are young, and I may sometimes wear "mom goggles", but they truly are amazing kids. It's fascinating to watch their personalities emerge and grow into beings, it tingles my heart when they call me, and it warms my core each time they just want my embrace.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Having a 1 and 3 year old is not easy times. I deal with tantrums and chasing them for baths or nap times constantly. Oh...bedtime can be the worst. Sometimes I am exhausted and spent by bedtime that I actually pray they go to bed with no fuss that night. Seems silly, but in that moment I feel just desperate. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
But then they close their sleepy eyes, they sleep with all the day's excitement and play behind them, and they both love cuddles. As I kiss each in their sleep, I fall more in love with them. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
At the end of the day, love for our kids outweighs all the stresses and tiredness it takes to raise a family. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
At the end of the day, they don't care if we got that promotion, or if we made the best lasagna, or if we got that house, or even if we didn't feel well enough to go to the park. Their only concern is feeling loved and happy and safe.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
We do that moms and dads. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
At the end of the day, that is all that matters. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I recently discovered that I do love to cook. Not just occasionally, and not by following recipes, not creating something great, and not "having to", I actually like to cook. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
What may happen when I cook, will it turn out, what am I even making? All these questions are generally (not always) unknowns when I cook...how I cook.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Afterall, I am my no means a chef. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I am not claiming to be. And that is OK. I hear so often people ask "can you cook?" The answer is an expected yes or no, sometimes the no response yielding laughter. However, cooking, to me, isn't something you have to be "good" at to do. Like working out, I may not be an expert but I still do it (ok that part I do need to work on). </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR6VI97P__yy9B1xyvT0zPiJCh37MP5TZ8btUv5KbuCLeDez8xU7T70NqzckYKmHtMzHnbzY97htZ2LUWPCCmRUAyidXgYDAOl8AJVIvnwwE8cejXL4rKZIJVyI-VPY3bgx4pia2D-RjYa/s1600/Picture_20170204_044509683.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Turning Mommy: easy cooking" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR6VI97P__yy9B1xyvT0zPiJCh37MP5TZ8btUv5KbuCLeDez8xU7T70NqzckYKmHtMzHnbzY97htZ2LUWPCCmRUAyidXgYDAOl8AJVIvnwwE8cejXL4rKZIJVyI-VPY3bgx4pia2D-RjYa/s320/Picture_20170204_044509683.jpg" title="Turning Mommy: easy cooking" width="180" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
When I cook, I generally do it to control what we are all eating and putting in our bodies. I do it because I love to create without judgement in the kicthen. When I cook, I rarely follow a recipe...but just go with the flow. Having said all that, I do:</div>
<div dir="ltr">
</div>
<ul>
<li>generally know what goes with what</li>
<li>plan what I want stocked in our fridge</li>
<li>aim to be healthy and nutritious</li>
<li>focus around creating balance for my kids diets </li>
</ul>
<div>
When I prepare meals for my family, I add what I can to add nutritional value, as I mainly know what they have eaten through the whole day. I want to ensure they are getting enough protein, fruits, vegetables, calcium and fibre. I also want them to have a varied diet, so not always eating the same things. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Having all this in mind, pushes me to cook as often as I can.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Back to me not being a chef. I really feel like cooking does not have to be complicated. It can be trial and error. </div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>I see fruits, so I try various combinations of smoothies.</li>
<li>I see produce so I saute different ones with either shrimp or chicken to make a "sort-of" stir-fry.</li>
<li>I see enough recipes that I kind of play with what I have on hand and just "remix" it to my liking.</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div>
At the end of the day, that's what makes it fun for me. Knowing I serve my family wholesome foods (at least 80% of the time) and playing around with food. You will notice my recipes are not complex, they are simple and easy, and kid-tested. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So don't be afraid of cooking...it's what you want to make of it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am by no means a chef, I don't have to be...neither do you.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy eating.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

So I spent a lot of time with her cradled, and didn't pay attention to posture, admittedly. I noticed, a few times, some pinching or knotted pain in my lower back occassionally. At one point, I even was in pain picking her up from her crib. I ignored it for a while, thinking I am in good health, so it shouldn't be an issue. Eventually, Vick told me I need to go to his chiropractor.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I never had seen a chiropractor before, ever. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Well going was a great idea for me. I felt great, and was told that it would be a good idea to go in a few more times. Me, ignoring my posture, sleeping awkwardly, could do some long-term damage to a normally healthy spine and neck. So I paid better attention to posture, and I'm thankful Vick made that appointment for me. I have notably a lot less back pain (then and now).</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">So, needless to say, I think it's important to share some tips on improving your posture, or being conscious of it, for all moms with babies.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Here are some tips provided by Dr. Nekessa Remy, a Top Canadian Chiropractor. Dr. Remy works in health and wellness, and helps parents to prevent sore muscles and back. She offers up these key tips to moms with babies. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<h2>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Improve your Parental Posture</span></h2>
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
</div>
<h3>
When Feeding the Baby</h3>
Sufficient support on your elbows is key in making sure that your arms and shoulders can relax. Whether you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding, make sure you sit tall, preferably in an armchair – a feeding pillow under your baby can help to prevent you from bending forward to reach your baby.<br />
<div style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<h3 style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">When Carrying or Holding Your Child</span></h3>
<div style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
Keep him or her close to your body and balanced in the center of your body instead of holding your child in one arm and balanced on your hip. This will lessen the strain and will evenly distribute the weight. When using a child carrier, keep your back straight and your shoulders relaxed to avoid straining your back and neck.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
</div>
<h3 style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<b><span style="font-family: inherit;">When Lifting Your Child Out of the Crib</span></b></h3>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Make sure you keep your feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent when lifting your child out of the crib. Feel the lift coming from the core of your body as you engage your abdominal muscles, while keeping your head up and hips slightly bent. Make sure to use both arms to lift your child as you closely hold him or her close to your body. Straighten your hips, making sure that you are in an upright position with your knees returning to a full stand. To return your child to the crib, use the same technique.<u></u><u></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<b><span style="font-family: inherit;">When Lifting Your Child From the Floor</span></b></h3>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Use a half-kneel lift and work your way up slowly. First, stand close to him or her on the floor and while keeping your back straight. With one foot slightly forward than the other, bend your hips and knees to lower yourself onto one knee. From the half-kneeling position, hold your child close to your body, tighten your abdominal muscles and push with your legs to slowly return to the standing position. To place your child back onto the floor, use the same half-kneel technique.<u></u><u></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<h3 style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<b><span style="font-family: inherit;">When Pushing a Stroller</span></b></h3>
<div>
<b><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div style="background-color: white;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Stay as close to the stroller as possible – this will allow your back to remain straight and your shoulders back. Push with the force coming from your entire body instead of exerting energy just from the arms. Avoid pushing the stroller too far ahead as this will cause you to hunch your back.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; margin: 0px;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The most common one being in and around getting healthier, which includes healthy eating.<br>
<br>
It is true that not only new moms sometimes struggle to plan meals to eat healthier for themselves, but often have the added pressure of creating a daily meal, 3 times a day for their entire family. Time and options can contribute to the stress of trying to figure out what to create every single day.<br>
<br>
That is why meal planning is growing in popularity. It is a tool aimed to serve to plan for the week, each week, for all your meals and snacks.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP9cnrSWJDljNVndw6x_Hm09QZ7mhec-G9cJ_5u9o-FQCeLWuvLDkUgmef5H_l3YnXL7Kiju-Fnq8YStOj-5dj8gVxi1vsCe3x6251teDV5icFMRB5aIdWapTOioTcEM1rgNisnNPmHMX4/s1600/Turning+Mommy+Meal+Planning+Tips.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Turning Mommy - Meal Planning Tips" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgP9cnrSWJDljNVndw6x_Hm09QZ7mhec-G9cJ_5u9o-FQCeLWuvLDkUgmef5H_l3YnXL7Kiju-Fnq8YStOj-5dj8gVxi1vsCe3x6251teDV5icFMRB5aIdWapTOioTcEM1rgNisnNPmHMX4/s320/Turning+Mommy+Meal+Planning+Tips.jpg" title="Turning Mommy - Meal Planning Tips" width="180"></a></div>
<br>
I have put together some tips that I personally found useful around meal planning for myself, and my family:<br>
<ul>
<li><b>Identify your biggest challenge</b>: Is it breakfast, is it dinner, is it feeding the kids, or is it snack options? It is ok to have multiple challenges, but identifying and taking the time to find out what the struggle is, is half the battle. Once you have that figured out can you start to create a plan to tackle that challenge.</li>
<li><b>Always create a shopping list:</b> Trying to wing it at the grocery store often results in guesswork later in the week when trying to create the actual meals. If you have some meals in mind that you want to make that week, put together an ingredient list so you are prepared.</li>
<li><b>Ensure you have fresh options stocked:</b> Perishable items need to be replenished, which can be work, but it is doable. If you have it available and in a visible area (such as a fruit bowl on the kitchen counter), you are more likely to grab it and do something with it. </li>
<li><b>Eat what you like:</b> Don't be extreme if that isn't your style. Meal planning won't work, and won't stick if you are choosing what you think you should eat vs. what you actually will eat. There are healthy alternatives to almost anything, talk to someone to find out what some alternatives may be. </li>
<li><b>Do not forget to include hydration as a part of your daily consumption: </b>Food is vital, but so is water or hydrating drinks. Often thirst is confused for hunger, ensuring you have hydration options through the day will help in major ways. </li>
</ul>
These are some key elements, of course I can go on and on...but I hope you can take something away here that will make it a bit easier to start tackling those healthy eating goals.<br>

<br />
Parenting advice is abundant, and can sometimes be overwhelming for the new mom. Having said that, it's comforting to often hear advice directly from people that have actually gone through it and giving you personal experiences. Relate-able advice is easier to take, and I know that personally, I referred to it often when learning the ropes.<br />
<br />
As a mom blogger, I am fortunate to have found some great bloggers with great advice out there. Tips that I found useful to all moms alike when just trying to do our best.<br />
<br />
I wanted to share some advice that I personally asked for, how to be an effective parent, how to keep the kids busy without always resorting to TV and movies, what advice to try and instill into kids as they get older, and my own guilt of letting my toddler sleep with us from time to time. I consistently found myself referring to other parent bloggers, and found it such an invaluable source. Mom bloggers, really are friends that are there for moms, looking to help moms and form this impeccable community. I am so thankful to have linked up and found this awesome group of strong and informative women.<br />
<br />
So fellow moms, here is a round-up of just a few great parenting tips from mom bloggers, direct from the source, from moms just like you.<br />

It is a great program that allows women to donate the cord, which is used to save lives already. I was, myself, interested in this program when I was delivering at BC Women's, so I was happy to have Trudi write a guest post here. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Please read on to learn more about this amazing program.</p>
<p dir="ltr"> <br>
<br>
<b>A Gift From Your Baby</b></p>
<p dir="ltr">When we think of babies and gifts, we think of giving them to newborns. But have you ever thought about receiving a gift from a newborn?</p>
<p dir="ltr">At birth, you and your baby share an amazing lifesaving gift: umbilical cord blood. Cord blood is rich in stem cells, which can be used for life saving transplants. There are more than 80 illnesses that can be treated with a stem cell transplant, such as leukemia and aplastic anemia.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Canadian Blood Services can collect cord blood after a healthy delivery at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Center, and if the cord blood unit meets all of the criteria for storing, it will be listed on a database that makes it available for a patient in need of a transplant. A patient like Aaryan. <a href="http://www.match4aary.com">http://www.match4aary.com/</a><br>
<br>
<br>
Aaryan is only 11 years old and for more than a year he has been living with aplastic anemia. It’s a condition where the bone marrow fails to produce enough new blood cells. In a healthy body, the stem cells in our bone marrow mature and become healthy red cells, white cells, and platelets. Aaryan’s stem cells aren’t doing that for him. This is why he needs a transplant.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Aaryan has an added challenge. He is has a multi-ethnic background, with Vietnamese and Afghan heritage. For a patient to find a compatible donor, they are matched through Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typing. Patients are more likely to find a match from someone who shares the same ethnicity. The number of people who share Aaryan’s unique ethnic background are few, and even fewer have registered to donate stem cells or have donated their cord blood.<br></p>
<p dir="ltr">You have a unique opportunity to help Aaryan and patients like him by donating your cord blood if you meet the following guidelines:<br>
<br>
-Healthy (mother and baby) with no medical conditions that could be passed on to a patient; <br>
-Mothers must be 18 years of age or older, and have a signed consent form prior to labour starting (you can download the form here https://blood.ca/en/cord-blood/how-do-i-donate <br>
-Mothers reaching 34 weeks or later in their pregnancy <br>
-Mothers not having a multiple pregnancy (i.e. twins, triplets) <br>
-Mothers fluent in English or French <br>
-Mothers delivering at one of the five designated collection hospitalswhere the Canadian Blood Services Cord Blood Bank is operational <br>
<br>
At the time of delivery your physician or midwife will determine if the cord blood collection may proceed. There is no cost to donate your baby’s cord blood </p>
<p dir="ltr">Like Aaryan, Nate needed a stem cell transplant. His mom would like you to consider donating your cord blood, so that you can help people like her son. <br>

This time of year can easily get away with us. We are asked, "momma can you buy me this," or "can I please open gifts now please please please."</div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
Although my kids are quite little, it would be nice to start some tradition to reinstate the meaning of Christmas, in our house. This could be a little gesture, perhaps it will stay and carry on. I had this in mind and contemplating what those could me. I want to exemplify that it is great to do for others, vs only expecting gifts. But what?</div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
By luck, my niece stayed over. I grabbed her and Caiden and took them both to Value Village for some "green gifting" inspiration. En route, she told me how her school had some books from Value Village. And then it hit me. I will get the kids to choose as many books as possible and we will gift them to a cause that would love some books.</div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
The kids loved it and so they set out in Value Village's book section to find books and books and books. And books they found, that's for sure.</div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">
There are so many walls and shelves of books at Value Village, all in good shape and in need of kids imaginations. Because they are so low priced it is easy to gather and purchase a lot. Giving a lot feels great and to my surprise, the kids were excited about giving lots and lots of books to kids in need.</div>
<div dir="auto" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;">

I love comfort food, especially this time of year. One of my faves...is a chicken, broccoli and cheese casserole, with rice. Oh so delicious and warm and awesome. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWk424nZhpb7UurCXQSPTodE-n3tba0NdUOoJ7GESuJAKfEH8bkwTvyDYDG1AN4i4a9vs9k7jchNKh4QqC7WKmz-aOBgXx3XtLjt7UznOxT9OwpD_k5uaaDzZwK3ko_OrE_rWIxGSlmuwH/s1600/P_20161208_181509_vHDR_Auto.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Turning Mommy Cheesy Chicken and Rice Recipe" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWk424nZhpb7UurCXQSPTodE-n3tba0NdUOoJ7GESuJAKfEH8bkwTvyDYDG1AN4i4a9vs9k7jchNKh4QqC7WKmz-aOBgXx3XtLjt7UznOxT9OwpD_k5uaaDzZwK3ko_OrE_rWIxGSlmuwH/s320/P_20161208_181509_vHDR_Auto.jpg" title="Turning Mommy Cheesy Chicken and Rice Recipe" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I always thought about making a similar, not as calorie rich, version. I finally did and excited to share it with you, because it turned out great. As always, I test it with the kids...it checked out.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
So here is a one-pot meal your family will be sure to enjoy.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Ingredients</b>:<br />
2 cups cooked rice al dente (I opt for brown rice or basmati here)<br />
2 chicken breasts, chopped in bite-size pieces<br />
1/4 cup finely chopped onion <br />
3 pieces of crushed garlic<br />
1 teaspoon of non-hyrogenaged margarine<br />
1 finely chopped red bell pepper<br />
1/2 cup to 1 cup finely chopped broccoli<br />
1 teaspoon curry powder<br />
1 teaspoon hot sauce of choice<br />
1/2 cup grated low fat cheddar cheese<br />
1 cup whole milk<br />
Salt and pepper to taste<br /><br /><b>Steps</b>:</div>
<div dir="ltr">
Sautee the chicken with the onion, garlic and margarine. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Add the curry powder and hot sauce to the chicken and continue to sautee until the chicken is fully cooked.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Add the peppers and broccoli, cover and let cook for about 3-5 minutes (do not overcook or let the veggies go soggy). </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Add the whole milk and allow everything to simmer.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Mix in the cooked rice and allow to simmer until all the liquid is absorbed. At this point, mix in the cheddar cheese and salt and pepper.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Turn the heat off and add green onions or any garnish of choice.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
That's it...easy, cheesy, yummy goodness.</div>

<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<i>Tip: For extra cheesy comfort food-like goodness, put into a baking dish and top with breadcrumbs and more cheese. Then back at 350 until golden on top.</i></div>

I admittedly love eating at this time of year. I enjoy all the treats, the dinners and the appies, and beverages. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
It's so fun to see creative creations. I often think about what I would serve up and, thanks to Pinterest, always getting inspired. This year, I am a little more on the "homey" feeling, so instead of being fed...I may try my hand at a few of these delectable recipes I have found online. I tend to gravitate to the cookies, and what I loved growing up...shortbread, snickerdoodles, oatmeal chocolate chip...so naturally I looked for fun cookies and treats. </div>

This life will surprise you, give you goosebumps, warmth, and sometimes even burns.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I have experienced all these emotions, throughout different phases in my life.<br>
It is a natural part of growing, not just into adulthood, but even now as a mom and wife. </p>
<p dir="ltr">This life is unpredictable, as each phase comes you learn more and more.<br>
It is never a game, it's to be self aware and learn as you go, no need to keep a score.</p>
<p dir="ltr">This life is interesting, full of new meetings, adding to your family, and sometimes sad goodbyes.<br>
You can never say never, or take things for granted...as we all know, time flies.</p>
<p dir="ltr">This life has given me my biggest blessings and changed in so many ways.<br>
There were times I would've never imagined being me now, not in my hay days. </p>
<p dir="ltr">This life moulded me to do exactly what was expected of me, to make everyone happy and never think of me. <br>
How crazy was that, because I'm a better person now, and I finally feel so free.</p>
<p dir="ltr">This life is a journey and you trod along for years, trying to find what aspect feels just right.<br>
There is no age upon which it will come to you, you just know because in you, you feel no flight or fight. </p>
<p dir="ltr">This life is different for every person, as each is unique has their own views.<br>
It is about respecting and not judging, not knowing what it's like in anyone elses shoes.</p>
<p dir="ltr">This life is about appreciating all the good and even the bad.<br>
I am thankful for all the things I've learned, be it happy, sad or mad. </p>
<p dir="ltr">This life is surreal, as I often say over and over, and over again.<br>
The realizations growing daily and being open to learning should never come to an end.</p>
<p dir="ltr">This life is about enjoying who I am, in all that I am in this moment in time, here and now.<br>
It is ok that things may change, so create memories, make goals, but cherish and be present, that is how. </p>
<p dir="ltr">This life is love. This life is for me. This life is a journey...and I am happy to BE.<br><br></p>

I have always been interested in health and wellness, and never really great at taking medicines. I do love to pester the people in my life (and definitely is following suit in my children) about how to better take care of themselves too, hopefully, avoid or prevent some ailments and/or issues. Of course, not everything is preventable, and as a parent, some things are completely unavoidable.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
So it wasn't too much of a surprise when I took to trying out essential oils. To some degree, I used to use it aromatherapy, and have always used coconut oil with the kids in massage, and also for myself. I always felt that there was so much to say about how the massage, scent, or even the effect of the oil made me feel, or my kids feel, either calm, relaxed, or fixing a nasty cold...the use of oil and/or massage revolved around that. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
So when I was introduced to DoTerra oils, I immediately felt that there are some I just need to have. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
I chose DoTerra as a brand, for a few reasons:</div>
<div dir="ltr">
a) Purity - there is absolutely no other fillers, additives, etc. the oil is exactly what it says it is</div>
<div dir="ltr">
b) Potency - because there is nothing but the oil of the ingredient, these babies are potent and so you need very little, in the case of the kids you actually dilute with coconut oil. So buying one, lasts you a long time.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
c) Reliability - there is something for everything, and so much information and research behind it, as a science major, this is extremely important to me - it is backed up scientifically, not just holistically.<br />
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBZTFmpff6rX-v7siOCtysFx-RE0vtoc6CyQRsN6QqYrztQpPar14BmgLUmxZQTD1iuKDKfSWbOK2vOaypZWkC7koDvkZHlm5w1bL6oGeuUBAY3xkw51qZl_Bn5ueMTkWdBCkp30osSerj/s1600/2016-11-16%25252005.12.20.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBZTFmpff6rX-v7siOCtysFx-RE0vtoc6CyQRsN6QqYrztQpPar14BmgLUmxZQTD1iuKDKfSWbOK2vOaypZWkC7koDvkZHlm5w1bL6oGeuUBAY3xkw51qZl_Bn5ueMTkWdBCkp30osSerj/s400/2016-11-16%25252005.12.20.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Here are the oils that particularly resonated with me, but I kid you not, there are so many out there that you will need to discover this for yourself (your needs).</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Serenity</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I originally got this for sleep...days where Ray was up all night, using it as a calming scent in the room. However, I found for myself, I love this. I rub a little on my chest on days I am feeling overwhelmed or a bit nuts...and the scent of it just is so soothing and clears my head a little better. I love this scent.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>On Guard</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This is a daily at my house. It is a daily with the kids, diluted with coconut oil. We rub it on our feet (I sometimes forget for myself, I admit), and it just boosts immunity and gives a sense of boosted health, ready to fight the cold season. I wanted to try it, after hearing about it, and other than some runny noses here and there, generally the kids have been pretty good. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Citrus Bliss</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This is just something that really spoke to me, well what I mean by that it is, it seems like MY scent. I needed energy, writing, embarking on a new career path...and when I smelled it, I immediately felt a boost. When I read about it, that is exactly what this envokes, it's strong citrus blend and aroma is meant to give you a spark...that it does. I use this when I need to feel inspired and less sluggish, especially to write.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>Breathe</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwgkghP8seUSF8hbWAb1IMknygtazobuieltNvIJKDArY82VG9QG-QIMrzvKwM41Np4oe4JOFM3tB9yyKksL_9FiN7JaDyhBj3jL0hPhRsMXJXLdaf-Q4RaW9_zHdOqoaMsGrSkKk90obb/s1600/2016-11-16%25252005.13.12.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwgkghP8seUSF8hbWAb1IMknygtazobuieltNvIJKDArY82VG9QG-QIMrzvKwM41Np4oe4JOFM3tB9yyKksL_9FiN7JaDyhBj3jL0hPhRsMXJXLdaf-Q4RaW9_zHdOqoaMsGrSkKk90obb/s200/2016-11-16%25252005.13.12.png" width="200" /></a>This one is a must-have. If you love Vicks, use camphor at all when you are sick...this is for you. The smell is camphor (for my Indian friends, kapoor). Just a few drops in the diffuser or vaporizer and it's amazing. Diluting it with coconut oil and rubbing it on your back and chest and feet, if you have a bad cold, works wonders. I haven't needed it a lot, due to the On Guard, but I'm not kidding, it's awesome.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b>DigestZen</b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I wish I knew about this a long time ago. However, this is the tummy oil. I always use asafetida powder (hing) and coconut oil to help with this department, with the kids. But this oil serves the same purpose, without the strong smell/taste. I used it on our trip to Mexico and no one had any issues...so far so good.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
There are actually quite a few others that I want to try, and have in my arsenal. One of them being Lavendar and Balance. Lavendar for relaxation/sleep, and Balance on days I feel I need some grounding and clarity. So I still have to try those ones out. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
At any rate there are soooooooo many out there, so many that you really need to just talk to someone who knows about this and is able to recommend one that you may need. I know for me, I'm happy having these on-hand. I also feel comfortable knowing it's completely natural and safe and clean. Caiden loves them...he knows he uses On Guard daily on his feet, and says "momma I put tickle oil on myself" (the diluted oil is in a roller bottle which tickles his feet). </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
In the end, I just want to feel revitalized when I need to, slowly etch towards living more natural, and feel healthy and well and balanced. I mean...don't we all?</div>
<div dir="ltr">

How did time pass so fast that I feel this feeling and realization has come out of left field? How did it not sink in before that this baby phase is slowly fading?</p>
<p dir="ltr">Ok maybe I'm being a tad dramatic.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I was just a bit taken aback, mostly in awe, of watching the kids on Halloween. We took them both trick-or-treating, thinking they will tire quickly, that we would need to carry both at some point, and that they would be timid or scared at some points (they are only 1 and 3 after all). </p>
<p dir="ltr">But no. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Caiden had a big day, dressed as IronMan. He embodied the whole character. He went to a party at school, had a blast, and then came home to rest...he knew he had big plans in the evening. Sure enough, when the time came, he was eager saying to the rest of us "C'mon!!" </p>
<p dir="ltr">Rayna was her favourite character, Minnie Mouse. She looked adorable and once given her pail, was walking around signaling for her shoes.</p>
<p dir="ltr">As we all, dressed, headed down our block, it hit me. We have hit the years where we don't just dress them up for pictures and visits to family. We have entered the age of them actually wanting to partake in activities and us enjoying it with them. Where they know what's to come and actually look forward to it and it become a known family venture. I love it. At the same time, I an taken aback at how quickly it seems to have come. As we walked house to house, Caiden would turn to us at each house and say "wait...I go myself", wanting for us to go to back off and let him be a big boy. With the same token, I would follow suit with Rayna, who, shockingly, would stand there and reach for the candy then say "that tu" as she received her treat. </p>
<p dir="ltr">This was all super cute, so amazing to be out with my family and watch my kids reach this stage...yet so unfathomably crazy surreal it feels to have two walking, semi-talking toddlers enjoying Halloween.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Toddlers...not babies...soon they will be kids...sigh.</p>
<p dir="ltr">So of course I must chronicle and take pictures!</p>
<p dir="ltr">What a great one. Our other festivities included the pumpkin patch, Vandusen Glow and a family Halloween party!</p>
<p dir="ltr">One for the books!<br></p>

I got mixed reactions, some saying it would be difficult while others saying it will be fantastic. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Well...it was...fan-fricking-tastic!</p>
<p dir="ltr">We went to Riviera Nayarit, a little off of Puerto Vallarta, in Mexico. It was beautiful, not too long of a flight (so the kids mainly slept), and just what we needed/wanted. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Our resort, Dreams Villamagna, was perfect - family friendly, great food, awesome staff, VIP service to the max, 24 hour room service, great view/room...and drinks and pools were perfect. </p>
<p dir="ltr">We went with no expectations, and aimed to make it about the kids, so with them playing in the pools and water, us having our cocktails...things went rather smoothly. Of course, vacation with the kids is different, but I truly think Vick and I are ready for these vacations. We want to experience life through their eyes...seeing them frolic in delight, swim to their heart's content, seeing animals and dolphins and even geckos in amazement, all made us so happy.  Honestly, as bedtime came around and they passed out...we often found ourselves exhaused too. </p>
<p dir="ltr">The kids loved it. Caiden learned how to swim (with floaties) and literally would want to swim until evening. Rayna only walked...no crawling...and loved to point out every bird and iguana we saw. They grew up so much in one week...amazing. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Vick and I would wake up as they would, we would check out our ocean view and get ready for breakfast and then either swim, or plan to go see dolphins...or take a trip to Sayulita...all of which was just awesome to say the least. Our trip was full of tacos, drinks, animal encounters (iguanas at the resort included), braids, and sun...sun and some more sun. The best thing,  was being together,  as corny as that may sound,  and watching our kids really experience and showcase their excitement for things...I mean Caiden held a snake and a crocodile for Pete's sake!! </p>
<p dir="ltr">I know now that this life as a mom with young ones, is what I revel for. I am in my element and love being with my family. I love that we take advantage of these precious moments, because it will pass and life will change once again. But until then, I can't wait until our next adventure.</p>
<p dir="ltr">What a blast!</p>
